Several more common types of OCD include fear of dirt, fear for one’s or another’s safety and an obsession with neatness.
An irrational fear of dirt can lead to the sufferer spending a lot of time in the toilet either bathing or washing hands. The sufferer may also have an obsession with cleaning everything and is compelled to rewash them many times before expelling their anxiety. Some of the more unusual cases include washing of cash notes and the washing of stationery before using them.
Fear for one’s or another’s safety will compel the sufferer to check the locks and window latches before leaving the house. One would also feel a need to check gas pipes many times.
An obsession with neatness is easily confused as most people are just naturally neat. A sufferer is most easily identified when the person’s handwriting is almost as neat as a typewritten piece.
